A guided walk beside Victoria Falls with spray rising from the gorge

Tip · 4 November 2026

When to See the Falls Mist (and When to Bring a Raincoat)

Victoria Falls looks different every month — and the “best” view depends on what you want from the mist.

In high water (roughly Feb–May), the spray can soak the rainforest trails. That’s the dramatic curtain-of-mist postcard. Wear shoes with grip, pack a light waterproof, and expect some viewpoints to feel more like a soft rain than a dry overlook.

In lower water (roughly Aug–Dec), more rock face shows and the spray eases on many paths. Photos of the gorge and the bridge are often clearer, and you can linger longer without getting drenched.

Neither season is “wrong.” Pick for the feeling you want: roar and mist, or clearer rock and longer walks. If your dates are fixed, we shape the day around the water level — Falls walk timing, whether a raincoat is essential, and when to leave space for a dry viewpoint or a sunset cruise instead.
